“A better barcode scanner”

Intended for workstations, this form factor (nicknamed “the phaser”) was our first system with a portrait orientation screen.

The trigger-actuated workflow was the most popular with our customers, and unlike the tablet and earlier buttonless devices, this version could be operated very easily with one hand. Almost all of the features introduced in this generation would be present in all future versions.

Design Requirements:

• Create a rugged barcode scanner analog without respinning any of the PCBs

• Keep heat away from the optics

• Add a mechanical trigger to supplement the touchscreen

• Add internal shock isolation to protect the optics
